In an urban locale where there is little nature exists, the prairie here provides a wonderful oasis where peace can be found.

Summer storm clouds brew at Kickapoo Prairie where rattlesnake master, Indian grass, and compass plant glow in the sun.

Features:

  • Wide expanse of prairie

Highlights:

  • July: Impressive display of rattlesnake master, compass plant, mountain mint, and blazing star

Best Times to Visit:

  • June through September for prairie wildflowers

Mike’s Thoughts: This is a great place to get involved by volunteering to restore the preserve.

Notes: Walk north across the field and to the “Kickapoo Prairie” along the paved bike path. As of July 16, 2018, there is no official trail. But, there are semblances of trails. From the sign, head north into the prairie and you’ll quickly find a faint worn trail continuing north. However, watch your first couple of steps because there’s a drop-off from the bike path. The Kickapoo Prairie sign is located at approximately this point on the map.
